Saturday, June 7th, 2025 – Beach Clean-Up Activity at Sol Beach, Elegushi

Our Team, Partners & Volunteers in Action

As part of our ongoing efforts to mark World Oceans Day 2025, the Lekan Bakare Foundation led a powerful Beach Cleanup Exercise today at Elegushi Beach, Lagos, in collaboration with Greenfingers Wildlife Inc. πŸ§ΉπŸ’™πŸŒ

The event brought together our dedicated volunteers, our team members and pupils from different schools all committed to protecting our marine spaces. After an insightful briefing on marine pollution, waste segregation, and ocean health, participants were grouped into teams (Turtle, Shark, Dolphin, Lobster) and equipped for action.

Working in synergy, we cleared the coastline of both recyclable and non-recyclable waste ranging from PET bottles and plastic caps to ceramic debris and an overwhelming number of slippers washed back ashore by the tide.
In total, we removed a staggering 62.82kg of waste from the shoreline with 27.88kg of recyclables and 34.94kg of non-recyclables which is an impactful reminder of how much damage human activity continues to cause, and how collective action can lead the wave of change. β™»οΈπŸŒŠ

To crown the day, we also had the privilege of releasing a rescued green sea turtle back into its natural habitat which is a powerful symbol of restoration and hope for our oceans. πŸ’πŸ’š

Together, we’re not just cleaning the beach, we are protecting our future.
