LBF Celebrates World Youth Skills Day 2025: Blue Intelligence in Action

Yesterday, on 15 July 2025, the Lekan Bakare Foundation hosted its inspiring World Youth Skills Day webinar—honoring the 10th edition of this global celebration of youth empowerment through skills development in AI, digital, and ocean innovation. (This marks the 10th anniversary of the UN‑led World Youth Skills Day—not the Foundation’s milestone.)

Highlights from the Webinar

The virtual event featured key insights from policy leaders and youth advocates:

  • Opening & Moderation by Osonaike O. Tovia (LBF Osun State Coordinator), who introduced the theme: Blue Intelligence – Empowering Youth for Ocean Innovation through AI & Digital Skills.
  • Keynote Address from Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Honourable Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Youth & Social Development, who emphasized the role of digital skills in catalyzing youth-led change.
  • Panel Conversation featuring:
    • Dr. Kolawole‑Daniel Aghogho (NIOMR), on AI-driven ocean research
    • Ms. Precious Francis (Nigeria Climate Innovation Center), on leveraging digital tools for climate solutions

Each speaker emphasized the urgency of equipping young people with technical and vocational education for sustainable impact.

What It Means for Youth & the Environment

Aligned with the global World Youth Skills Day theme, LBF’s event spotlighted how AI and digital competencies can unlock new possibilities for marine conservation, climate resilience, and green entrepreneurship. The session reinforced the message: youth equipped with digital skills are essential catalysts for a healthier ocean and a thriving planet.
