In a dedicated effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Lekan Bakare Foundation celebrated World Oceans Day 2024 with two impactful events aimed at raising awareness and taking action for the preservation of our oceans.

Beach Cleanup at Elegushi Beach

On June 8th, 2024, the Foundation kicked off the celebrations with a beach cleanup at Elegushi Beach. Volunteers, environmental enthusiasts, and community members gathered early in the morning, armed with gloves, trash bags, and a shared commitment to making a difference. The cleanup was a resounding success, as participants worked together to remove plastic waste, debris, and other pollutants from the beach, leaving it cleaner and safer for both marine life and beachgoers.

Symposium in Collaboration with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF)

Following the beach cleanup, the Foundation hosted a symposium on June 10th, 2024, in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF). The event brought together several dignitaries, environmental experts, and lovers of eco-friendly sustainable development goals to discuss the pressing issues facing our oceans and the vital role of conservation in ensuring a sustainable future.

Keynote speakers at the symposium highlighted the importance of collective action in tackling ocean pollution, climate change, and the depletion of marine resources. The discussions emphasized the need for continued advocacy, education, and community involvement in the preservation of our oceans.

A Commitment to Sustainable Development

The Lekan Bakare Foundation’s celebration of World Oceans Day 2024 was a testament to its unwavering commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. By organizing events that not only raise awareness but also inspire tangible action, the Foundation continues to play a crucial role in promoting eco-friendly initiatives that contribute to a healthier planet.

As we reflect on the success of these events, the Lekan Bakare Foundation encourages everyone to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and join the global effort to protect our oceans for future generations.
